Zeus collects illegitimate offspring like other gods collect believers. Some of these end up as heroes, others as gods. His long-suffering wife, Hera puts up with his inability to keep his godhood under his tunic, though with great difficulty.
As the father of the Olympians, Zeus reserves the right to lord it over the other gods and is not shy about making his displeasure at his children's behaviour felt.
Word from the Greek playwright Aristophanes is that he makes the rain by pissing through a sieve. We won't enquire as to how he makes hailstones...
